Guest Lecture on “BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO and PCPNDT Act 1994” Organized by Amity University Gwalior

Amity Law School organized a lecture on “Beti Bachao Bati Padhao and PCPNDT Act, 1994” on 1st May 2015 in Association with Family Planning Association of India, Gwalior.

Welcoming the gathering Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma (AVSM Retd.) appreciated the speakers and guests for taking out time to visit Amity University Gwalior ,Madhya Pradesh to enlighten the students of law on one of the social menaces that requires immediate attention.

The programme commenced with the brief introduction of the lecture highlighting its relevance in the present scenario.

Addressing the students Dr. K.K. Dixit, eminent social activist provided a layman’s point of view and shared figures in order to bring to the notice some important facts relating to Pre- Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. He emphasized the main provisions of the Act that have been extraordinarily drafted to combat the growing incidents of female feticide. Most of the provisions of the Act have been made mandatory and are not at the discretion of the court to interpret viz. the registration requirements, etc. Several reasons made it necessary to introduce this Act like desire for son, demand for dowry, etc. Finally the speaker emphasized that there are two types of remedies that can be resorted to. One is to educate the masses and the easier one is to educate the doctor who plays an important role in sex determination of child in mother’s womb.

Amity University Gwalior Sponsors the All India Ranking Tennis Tournament 2015

For the 2nd year in a row Amity University Gwalior,  Madhya Pradesh was the title sponsor of All India Ranking Tennis Tournament, organized by Gwalior Chambal Tennis Association from April 5th to April 10th 2015 at the Tennis Complex, City Center, Gwalior.

The Tournament was inaugurated on 5th April at 6.00 PM. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Akhil Kumar, a boxer of international repute and an Arjun Awardee. The event was also attended by the Guest of Honour District Collector Mr. P. Narhari, Vice Chancellor AUMP
Lt. Gen. V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd) and other dignitaries. Tennis players from all parts of the country enthusiastically participated in this tournament. After 5 days of healthy competition, the tournament came to an end on 10th April. The grand closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan and Adl. President, RBEF as a guest of honour, Dr. Sunil Saran, Chancellor AUMP, Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd) Vice Chancellor, AUMP and other dignitaries. Mr. P. Narhari Collector, Gwalior was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The ceremony included distribution of prizes to the winners and presenting of mementoes to the guests.

A farewell was conducted on 31.03.2015 to bid farewell to the LLM class of 2015 in the University premises on 31st March 2015 from 1600 hrs onward.

Final word of advice from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Welcoming the dignitaries and the gathering on the occasion, the Director, ALS wished the students a bright career and assured them that the ALS would help the students with placements. In his speech, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor blessed the students and counseled them that whatever be the career they chose, the students must be sincere and honest. If they chose litigation, they must accept the cases which are morally correct. He also stated that if they chose teaching career, as a AUMP would welcome the alumni back to join as teachers. The junior students conferred titles and mementos to the LLM students. After cultural programmes the students had DJ followed by dinner by 1930 hrs.

Amity University Gwalior organizes a farewell for passing out batch of Amity School of Communication with mixed emotions, nostalgia, and fervor put together, Amity School of Communication, Amity University Madhya Pradesh bid adieu to Bachelors and Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication’s final semesters in its farewell party, on 2nd April, 2015 at the ASCO Studio.

The passing out batch BJMC (VI Semester) and MJMC (IV Semester), were given a farewell party that began with a song dedicated to every senior to mark their entry. The event began with a welcome of all dignitaries and HOIs followed by an address by ASCO Deputy Director
Dr. Sumit Narula. Dr. Narula brought out the memories with the outgoing batch and wished them all success for their future endeavours.

This was followed by solo song performances by juniors, after which Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. VK Sharma AVSM (Retd.) addressed the seniors. Hon’ble VC began with the beginnings of ASCO, and stated that media and communication are such integral parts of the society, and its functioning never stops. He emphasised on keeping learning intact and the significance of keeping oneself updated in the present competitive world.

This was followed by an encouraging talk by Dean Academics Dr. RS Tomar, who emphasised on the significance of practical learning. The party had interesting games for all seniors, in contrast to their personalities, which added humour and light element to the nostalgia. All seniors spoke about their experiences at Amity University, and each one of them spoke about individual faculty members and the learning they have had from each.

Mr. Rutvik Aphale from BJMC (VI Semester) was given the title of Mr. ASCO and Ms. Paridhi Dwivedi from BJMC (VI Semester) of that of Ms. ASCO.

The event ended with concluding remarks by Dr. Sumit Narula, followed by dinner and a dance party.

Annual Quiz 2015 held at Amity University Madhya Pradesh

Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized the Annual Quiz Competition 2015 in the auditorium, Block-B on March 30.

The quiz comprised three stages – two written rounds and the  final oral round. The initial written round was conducted by all the schools for their respective students. About 20 students qualified the initial written round, after which the  final written round was conducted. The final four teams comprising two students each were selected on the basis of their performance in the final written round.

The Oral quiz comprised  Eight rounds viz. Current Affairs, GK, Books and Authors, French, Picture, Video and Audio round. The quiz had a rapid fire round also which made it more exciting for the students and the audience both. At the end of every round there was an audience question which kept the interest alive among the audience.

The Oral quiz was lively with exuberant Quiz Masters Sudeep, Dewanshi, Samarth and Anvesha supported by video/audio/buzzer rounds with computerized marking system.

Nikhil Thakur – II Sem, ASAP and Anu Bhatnagar – II Sem, ALS emerged as winners.

All the participating teams were awarded prizes and certificate of appreciation.

This highly motivating quiz was graced by the presence of  Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen V.K.Sharma AVSM (Retd.), Prof (Dr) R.S.Tomar, Dean Academics, The HoIs, HoDs, faculty members of all the schools and students of AUMP.

The competition was conceptualized under the guidance of Dr. Iti Roychowdhury, Dy.Director-ASCENT. The quiz was designed and organized by Dr Vinod Bhatt and faculty of ASCENT and ASL.

Amity University Madhya Pradesh Organizes National Seminar on Role of Media in Nation Building

Amity School of Communication, AUMP, Gwalior organized a one-day National Seminar on the Role of Media in Nation Building. The seminar saw 16 media professionals and academicians contributing to the discourse on media’s role as a building block.

The seminar was inaugurated by an illuminating address by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. VK Sharma AVSM (Retd.). Hon’ble VC stated how media’s role in a country like India cannot be sidelined.

The seminar commence with the keynote address of the Chief Guest, Senior Journalist and OSD to the Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr. Rajkumar Bhardwaj on development and media. He put forth his views on the significance of Hindi language for developmental purpose. Guest of Honour Dr. Pradeep Krishnatray, Director Research and Strategic Planning, Centre for Communication Programs, Johns Hopkins University, New Delhi spoke about social media as a tool of nation building.

The inaugural session also saw the release of the book of proceedings comprising the research papers received for the seminar, as also the release of the cover of the soon to be released Biannual Amity International Journal of Media Studies.

Dr. Archana R Singh, Professor, School of Communication Studies Panjab University, who chaired the first technical session, discussed the problem of sticky floors and glass ceilings faced by female journalists, and how the scenario for women is changing in the media industry. Dr. Pushpendra Pal, Head of Journalism department, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Bhopal, spoke on the concept of peace building with the use of media, and how peace building as a concept is becoming complex with the technological surge.

The first parallel session was chaired by Dr. Neeru Johri, Head of the Department of Communication Studies, JIIMS, New Delhi, who spoke on the significance and connection of media and human rights. Dr. Mukul Srivastava from Lucknow University talked on social media discourses available with regards to media’s role in nation building. Dr. Surbhi Dahiya from IIMC, New Delhi talked about media’s significance in a democratic nation state and what role can it play as an agent of change. A discourse on cinema’s role in developmental activities was presented by Dr. Amitaabh Srivastava from Galgotias University, Noida.

In the last parallel session, Dr. Sukhnandan Singh of Centre for Journalism and Mass Communication, DSVV, Haridwar gave a talk on spiritualism and media, along with Dr. Vijayalaxmi Iyenger, Director BM College, Indore who co-chaired the same session and spoke on media and economic development and how they are co-related.

The valedictory session was chaired by Dr. Ambrish Saxena, Director, Vivekanand Institute of Professional Studies, New Delhi, who shared his views on how freedom of press is not only significantly required, but has to pass through the gate-keeping model. Guest of Honour,

A lecture by Professor Joseph Schneider of Suny Baffalo Law School, the State University of New York, US was cunducted on 24th March 2015 at 1100 hours on the title “US Legal Education, Programmes at Suny Buffalo Law School and New York Bar Exam” in the moot court hall of Amity Law School, Block – B, Amity University Madhya Pradesh.

Amity University Gwalior Organises Farewell function for the final year students of B.Tech. Biotechnology

Amity Institute of Biotechnology hosted farewell function for the passing out batch 2011-15 on 25th March, 2015. “Dasvidaniya” farewell to B. Tech. Biotechnology AIB got a spectacular farewell from their juniors for their onward journey of corporate life or higher studies.

The program was organized by the students of First, Second & Third Year B.Tech, B.Sc. (H), M. Sc. and M.Tech. Students of AIB. The program took the graduating batch on a stroll down the memory lane. The function was graced by Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AVSM (Retd.), Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, Dean (Academics) & Director AIB, Prof. S.P. Bajpai, Dean (Research), Dr. Anil Vashisht, Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Anil Shrivastava, Registrar, Mr. Rajesh Jain, Dy. Registrar and all HoIs.

The evening started off with lighting of lamp by the dignitaries. Junior students performed dance and other activities. Third year students spoke short poem for their seniors. Highlights of the evening were ramp walk by seniors. Titles of Mr Farewell and Miss Farewell were given to Mr. Raja Jain and Ms. Kirti Singh respectively. Truly nostalgic were the movie clips made by the organizing team, knitting together umpteen moments of graduating batch’s memorable four years at AIB. On this occasion Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, shared his feelings and remembered the days when these students and their parents approached him for admission in 2011.  He heart fully thanked the students’ parents for showing their trust in Amity University, Gwalior. Prof. Tomar gave a glimpse of entire journey of senior batch at AIB. Students of fourth year expressed their feelings and memories during their stay at AIB. Vice Chancellor applauded the graduating batch for the all-round performance they had shown over the past four years and how they had helped to improve the quality and get AIB at a benchmark level and wished outgoing students for their bright future. He promised to make further efforts for the placements of this particular batch. The faculty members of AIB,  Dr. Raghvendra Kumar Mishra, Dr. Vikas Shrivastava, Dr. Shuchi Kaushik, Dr. Anurag Jyoti and Mrs. Sharmistha Banerjee also expressed their feelings. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Jyoti Kumari and Mr. Amit Kumar. The farewell party concluded with DJ party at the university lawn.

Amity University Gwalior Organises Film-Making Workshop under Cineaste 2015

AMITY UNIVERSITY GWALIOR ORGANISES FILM-MAKING WORKSHOP UNDER CINEASTE 2015

A film-making workshop was organised by Amity School of Communication, Amity University Gwalior on the 19th of March, 2015 within the premises as a part of Cineaste 2015. All students who had a taste for the art attended the session and got to learn the nuances of film-making.

The Resource persons for the workshop were, Mr Pranshu Kaushal, an actor best known for his role in television serials like Manzil Apni Apni and Fiza. He has recently debuted in a Bollywood movie called Hum Hain Teen Khurafaati which is set to release this year. He is an Amity alumnus and has also completed his Diploma in Film Making from the New York
Film Academy, U.S.A.

During the workshop Mr Kaushal spoke about his life as an actor and outlined its graph. ‘There are ups and downs and you can’t lose hope, you need to maintain yourself, take care of yourself, trust and respect your director as he is the captain of the ship’, said Mr. Kaushal. He also emphasized that one needs to remain focused on the track, pray as it helps a lot and cooperate with people one is working with. Mr. Kaushal gracefully answered a lot of queries from students, making it a very interactive session.

The second guest for the workshop was Mr. Ashish Rao. While Kaushal talked about things in front of the camera, Ashish highlighted on things behind the camera. Mr. Ashish Rao is a wildlife photographer and a wildlife documentary film maker who makes documentaries for the National Geographic Channel and Discovery Channel. Besides, he is also working as an Assistant Professor, and Senior Manager, ASCO Studio, AUUP. He has studied Photography and Digital Photography at the New York Film Academy and Deakin University, Australia.

Mr. Rao stated that Filmmaking needs a subject and travelling gives the opportunity for research, which is of paramount importance in film-making. According to Mr. Rao, one needs to observe, notice, and inbibe. “It is not about dream or creation. Research and information gathering plays a pivotal part, especially when we go for documentary filmmaking”, said Mr Rao. One needs facts so that he/she can turn it into a story that can be understood by people. He also mentioned that a documentary revolves around a central point. He showed the students the kind of cameras and the techniques that are required for the work. He also showed the students his recent documentary for Discovery Channel and highlighted the techniques and skills that were used in it.

The entire session was engrossing and enlightening and acted as a window to the art of film-making for students. There was a lot of interaction, and the entire workshop was successfully conducted and well appreciated by those who attended it.

Amity University Madhya Pradesh organizes CINEASTE 2015

CINEASTE 2015- A Tribute to Films and Cinema by ASCO,  Amity University Gwalior

Amity School of Communication, Amity University, celebrated its Annual Film Festival “CINEASTE 2015” on 18th March 2015.

The chief guest for the event was the National Award winning actor Rajkumar Rao of Kai Po Che, Queen, Citylights and Shahid fame. A versatile actor, Rajkumar Rao shared his knowledge and experience related to his life and work in an interactive session with the students. Calling himself a learner still, he told the students how closely he could relate to them.

He shared the experience of his bollywood journey and got nostalgic recalling his first break in the industry and his National Award winning performance in Shahid. He answered all the questions put forward by the students very tactfully and even fulfilled the wish of one of his fans to have a dance with him. His energy and charming presence filled everyone with enthusiasm.

The event was also graced by the presence of Media Expert Mrs. Rachna Johri. She has about two decades of experience in areas of National Production and Development of Communication for Broadcast media and Audio- visual teaching in music production and Radio Broadcast. Deeply rooted in executive, business and management skills, Mrs. Johri has worked with Doordarshan Delhi, BIG FM, ISRO and has been a visiting faculty at DAVV University, Indore.

The film festival invited movies and documentaries from all over the country and was successful in receiving more than 50 entries, out of which a selected few were chosen to be screened during the event. The event started with an audio- visual tribute to 100 years of Indian Cinema, prepared by the ASCO students, followed by an innovative ‘ASCO Showreel’ showcasing the fantastic members of faculty of Team ASCO – the organisers and conveners of this event.

‘Telegram’, a heartwarming movie from Indore based on invasion of modern technology on the primitive telegram system, won the award for the Best Film. ‘Pristine Waters’ from Noida was selected in the Best Script category. The movie focused on the importance and utility of river Yamuna in the lives of the people and showed a contrasting phase of it getting adversely polluted due to human activities. The award for the Best Direction was grabbed by the movie ‘Poverty Nemesis’, by ASCO, AUMP students that depicted an emotional story of a son carrying forward the lineage of poverty inherited by him from his father. Prizes worth Rs.50000 were awarded to the winners of Cineaste 2015.

Cinesta 15 was intended to encourage the art of film making by appreciating the efforts and vision of the people associated with this field and also to inspire prospective film-makers among the students.
